Five years ago we paid $19/hr in upper NW DC for a legal, very experienced, loving nanny. My sense is you can get excellent care at the $18 - $22 range. Your best bet is to advertise the position, see the candidates that come in, and learn about their asking rates. You will see the trends very quickly. That's the only way to really know.

I would agree with most of the above - $25/hr is fair and competitive (so $12.50/hr per family.)
You could pay less if it were a full 50 hour position but at 40 hours a week I think $25 makes sense.

I'd say 18-20$ an hour so each families is 9-10$

I think each family pays 12.50/h and that's it. Let her take on her own health insurance cost. Of course all federal holidays paid, 2 weeks of paid vacation plus 5 days of paid sick leave. This is what I would offer.
