There are legitimate reasons for quitting where you can collect unemployment.

I'm not the pp that you called dense, but the op is the one that worded it "I will be ending a 5 year job" or something similar. So it does sound as if she is the one making the decision to leave.

I recently went through the same thing. I was also worried if would impact the family. But the truth of the matter is we worked for it. I applied and haven't worried about bills,etc.
It was easier than taking the wrong position just because you needed a job. Good luck!

Thanks PPs! That's what I was thinking, that it wouldn't Impact them as they wont be hiring another nanny and that I've earned it and should take it!

Agree w/ PP. If they aren't planning to hire anyone else then there shouldn't be any repercussions whatsoever. Even if they were rehiring the impact would not be horrific.

If they hire someone else their unemployment tax rate might go up a bit .

I will be ending my position after nearly five years. I've started interviewing, but have higher rates than most people want to pay and I had one family that did want to pay, but I would have had to depart this family prematurely. I am considering collecting unemployment until I find a new position that will be a great long term fit. The family I work for now will not be hiring a new nanny. What repercussions will it cause the family I work for, if any?
