Sometimes having a job fall threw is a blessing in disguise. Working for them would have been awful.

It was a date night, not work.

They were having "buyer's remorse" and looking for a reason to cancel the offer. They really couldn't afford you, but agreed to what you asked for because they liked you as a nanny. You, on the other hand, felt like you were cutting them a break on your rate anyway. This was never going to work longterm; it's best for you that you got out now.

MB here. Sorry about the situation, but truly you dodged a bullet. You do not want to work for anyone so self-centered and unreasonable.

Op here. I did have a contract with them. I require it with every family I work with. I had accepted their job over other offers and was going to sign it last night. I'm bummed but I guess they aren't people I want to work for. My sister died for two minutes and they got her pulse back. I think that justifies me canceling. Any family can go through a situation like this one. Maybe it's best considering I worked a trial day for them and they didn't want to pay me for it. They were cheaper than my normal rate but I chose them because they were so close to me.

P.s. I'm the OP who asked about their cheap offer in this thread. I was able to get vacation and better pay from them.

You claim the job offer was awesome. But to me, a MB it was a huge red flag that they didn't want to pay you for a trial day. Red flags really need to be listened to.

So sorry about your sister OP.
I hope she is doing much better today.

This MomBoss has a heart made of ice.
Working for her would have made you go bat crazy.

She did you an awesome favor by rescinding the position.

Keep looking for a brand-new position.
One where the family actually has a bit of compassion to spare.

Good luck!

You mean heartless? It's sad the lack of compassion and empathy for other people. You will find a better job. These people showed their true colors. I wouldn't want to work for someone like this.

I took a job offer that is awesome a couple weeks ago. I really like the family. I had plans to babysit ( date night) for them yesterday. An hour before I was suppose to be there, I had to cancel. My sister had a severe drug reaction and stopped breathing. I had to call 911, give CPR, and then my watch my niece and nephew while she was rushed to the ER. It was very severe and extenuating circumstances. The mom sent me a text
" We are not giving you the offer" ( I already got it and accepted)e because of reliability concerns. I am sickened by this. I wouldn't normally cancel ( references spoke highly of my reliability) and it was extenuating circumstances. I am so upset.
