Sorry OP here on DCUM you are going to get all kinds of snarky comments. Your question is valid. You should put together a position description, including your expectations, benefits and hours you are needing. As I am sure you have found out there are all levels of nannies and many like hiring an Au pair's for a live-in. If you want a professional experienced nanny this will cost the most and is the most expensive form of child care. Are you going to be a stay at home mom, or are you going to be working out of the home many hours? If you work outside of the home you should only look at a professional nanny for many safety reasons. Many college students can also be professional nannies and may work with you on cost. What are the state laws where you are concerning on how you pay for child care, live-outs must be paid hourly, in some states a live-in may be paid a salary, be sure to pay legally including taxes.

Best of luck

1. Exactly what conditions do you have to offer, OP?

2. Is the space legal?

Lemme get this straight...you have space in DC and your motivation for a live in is to save money?! How stretched are you exactly?

I think this depends on whether she is living in for her convenience (no bills) or yours (increased flexibility).
