It sounds like this family wants a nanny, but can in no way AFFORD a nanny. Thank them for their interest and walk away.

I would never take the job, personally. If you have good experience and references, there is no way you should accept the offer.

The mom is a teacher and has almost three weeks of vacation that I will be unpaid. I'm required to be available 50 hours a week. The dad may get off early so they want to guarantee me 40 hours a week. I get major holidays paid but unpaid for the other holidays. The summers are also unpaid time off. I tried to negotiate 50 hours a week pay but the dad doesn't want to. They live 5 blocks away. I like them but I think the offer is too unfair. I don't know if I should keep looking?
they need a nanny who also values her summers off - with her own kids or with her grandkids.
move on, do not start a new job with an attitude problem.
BTW, 40 hours/ week guaranteed is standard and flex/ on call for 50 hours a week is standard too.

say you can only take the job if they guarantee you 45 hrs/week if they want you available 50.
I wouldn't worry about summer, because you can look for a summer job then, and if you find a better offer that wants full-time at that point, you can switch jobs.

- MB who thinks that offer sucks
