I would pay it for someone who was:

- able to prep dinner
- willing to regularly do light housekeeping (laundry, vacuuming)
- able to be available for occasional sick care or school holidays

I might even pay more if I thought the person could be a real godsend for a long period of time.

If I got someone mature, capable

I am an after school nanny. An after school nanny is usually there only about three hours a day.

That is not enough time to do the laundry and vacuum.

Say the kids get off the bus at 3.
From 3 to 3:45 is walk home from the bus stop, potty, snack, how was your day.
3:45 to 4:45 is homework. Which I am right there helping them with.
4:45 to 5:10, sometimes I let the kids watch netflix, sometimes I have them clean their room, and sometimes they need to get ready for karate. While they are doing that, I feed the dog and sometimes take out the trash. Rarely, I have time to unload the dishwasher before either parents get home or I take the kids to karate.
Twice in the two years I have been with them have I vacuumed, and both times I did it after a parent came home, and both times it was because popcorn got spilled.

For 90 minutes and just walking the kids home for a snack, yeah, I can see why anything more than a teenager wouldn't be worth it.

This post was more geared toward people that could anyways, I want to know if they would. I know the majority of people out there and on here could not swing it even if they wanted. But thank you for your input.

OP here, and this snippy post was not written by me.

I also meant to mention this person comes with excellent references and is a mom herself.

Would she be bringing her own children? Or are her kids much older?

Her children are young, but no, she would not bring them with her.

It would depend. If the nanny were supervising homework, driving to/from activities, doing housework or errands...it might be worth it to me. But $25/hour to walk the kids home from school and make a snack seems steep.

Anyone who has the money to get good childcare, should pay for good childcare. Or you're somebody's charity.

Yup, I am paying $25 an hour now for our amazing after school sitter. I'm glad to pay the extra $5 an hour for the absolute peace of mind, reliability, maturity, and ability to manage himself. Compared to other sitters I've had I'd even go higher if needed to keep this one!

I have done this, it was great to have someone who had raised kids in the area. Was well worth the hourly rate (which had to be on the high side due the part time nature of the job). She also did some mornings when I had to work early- never had to worry about her being late due to traffic.
