In my budget? Why are you assuming I have a low budget. Those candidates said they took the other jobs because the families made a qucker decision. I am offering a good wage.

And don't be cheap -- better to pay more and get a great nanny than save a few pennies and be frustrated with a lesser candidate.

The house hunting analogy is a good one! There are lots of people looking for nanny jobs, but only some are excellent. You've got to be prepared to make an offer quickly. Call one reference right away -- the one who posted an ad for the nanny -- and make an offer pending a background check. Good nannies get scooped up right away, especially by people who have interviewed many nannies and know high quality candidates when they see them. Also, good nannies can be choosy about the family they work for. The interviews are a two way street!

It's like house hunting in a hot market. You must scoop up the best one fast. You do this by offering the best all around compensation package. Good nannies are hard to find and they aren't cheap.

If the nanny I wanted got a better offer, I'd see what I could do about it. In all honesty, it is somewhat of a competition when others want what you want. Ignore your friends who tell you there are "tons" of good "affordable" nannies out there. There aren't. Just look around.

My partner and I are looking for a nannies for our infant. We interviewed 7 nannies and decided on the second one. We call her to extend an offer and she tells us she took another job. Call our second choice and same thing. Now we have to interview again. We just spent the last two weeks interviewing. I am a little annoyed and worried we won't find a nanny. I felt so natural with our first choice and she said she liked us. I don't understand why she chose to work for someone else.
