FYI - I have been doing the nanny-at-home while I lived and worked in Mexico and it worked out great. I have a separate space to work and I am focused on my own thing while the nanny takes care of my son. I do some small visits here and there, but other than that I am out of the picture, yet I found it great to be nearby.
I'm sure the nanny didn't think it was "great" for you to pop in and out "here and there." That's extremely disruptive for most children and very insensitive of the parent, to say the least.
This is exactly why most nanny's will not consider an at-home parent. If parent isn't self-disciplined enough to respect healthy boundaries, it's a bad thing for the child. Just not worth the needless and constant aggravation.
