I think it's perfectly fine for your son to be around other children his age in a "school environment", but at the age of 2, not necessarily in a program where he will be without his caregiver, which I am assuming you are thinking about. At that age, separation is not important or even desirable for better socialization. Many parents assume that earlier socialization = better socialized, but that's not the case. There are no studies that support this and in fact, there are studies that indicate the opposite. If you have no independent reason for putting your child in a separation program, such as the nanny wanting to reduce her hours, then enroll him in a program where caregivers are present. Or save money and have the nanny schedule playdates if your only goal is socialization.
