I am about to hire a college grad for $10/hr for $500/week. One kid. Some driving. It just depends on your area.

I made $12 when I was in college 15 years ago.

Make sure you pay for gas and having her car cleaned and give her all the perks of an evening sitter (eats at your house etc) and give her at LEAST $12. She's trying to get through school.

College students usually get $15/hr.

$12, gas money and expenses.

Even $12/HR. seems low in today's economy.

I think you should offer her a full nanny salary since she will be working nanny hours & performing typical nanny duties for those 2 1/2 months she will be watching your daughter.

Since she is electing to use her own car on the job, include the $0.56/mile rate for any driving done on-the-job.

There is no better investment in life that you can pay than for your daughter.

If she's as good as op says, she has better offers.

Also pay her for gas for running your daughter around. Provide funds for a couple of fun outings over the course of the summer for the both of them.

I don't think $10/hr is sufficient OP. If transportation and meal prep is included I'd give her $12-13 hr.

Agreed. $12 is closer to appropriate. I'll tell you in advance: there are going to be a bunch of kidders who try to get you to pay more than $15 an hour. that is absolutely 100% unnecessary.

Throw her a bone and bump it to $12/hr. Thats still cheap and she will see it as a huge raise and will be a stellar employee. The peace of mind is worth it for the $2/hr.

I have a question that maybe others can offer me some guidance with pertaining to a summer nannying (or is it babysitting) position. I will be hiring a college girl for the summer to watch my 8yo daughter (no special needs,diet, etc). She's a family friend that has sat for our child previously. I've historically paid her $10/hr. I've asked her to give me a quote on price and I think she's embarrassed to (or whaterever). She will be nannying/sitting at least 40hrs/week over the summer. She will be coming to our house (she lives less than a mile away) and preparing breakfast and lunch. She will be transportingour child to sports practice at least once a week about 10 mins away. She'll be using her own car although we have offered her to use one of ours. We included her in our family membership to a pool so they can enjoy the summer swimming whenever they want, but she can also go on her own whenever as she has an all-inclusive membership through ours. She is trained in CPR/First Aid and is actually in EMT training currently. Basically, it's just like a long-term (2.5 month) babysitting gig. Do you think $10/hr is sufficient? Would appreciate any input!
