You have to pay for hours worked. She fulfilled her side for X amount of hours and is owed payment for those hours. This isn't something up for interpretation or negotiation.

You are required to pay for the hours actually worked. If she worked from 8 am to 4 pm, then got hurt on your property while fulfilling her job requirements, technically you are liable for her injury, and she would have a case for payment of all hours she was supposed to work in addition to medical bills. Given that she's only asking for payment of hours worked, you are a piece of work.

Nice try. Go play with your kids.

No!! Don't put your friend in the middle of the situation.

Op here, I agree; I don't want to involve my friend because this is between the parents and me. Thanks for the thought, though!

Did you tell them you'll pick-up your check?
Any chance they don't have the money?

P.S. I wouldn't get your friend involved in this at all.

Keep things between YOU + him only!!

Absolutely keep pursuing!!

Perhaps the Father did send out the check, but it just got lost in the mail. (Highly unlikely though.)

Or he means to send out your paycheck but is a bit scatterbrained & keeps putting it off. He could also just be a big procrastinator and doesn't put it very high on his "to-do" list.

No excuses!
He NEEDS to send you what is rightfully owed to you like right now. Stat.

Maybe calling him and even showing up at the house unexpectedly will show him just how serious you are about being compensated.

Good luck!!

Op here, totally understand the bailing thing, but I know this couple and they have a cute baby. The dad saw my swollen ankle and even walked me to my car. That's why I'm surprised by all the silence. I would never bail on someone, though!

I'd email or text them saying I'll swing be at 8 pm this evening to pick up a check. And to let you know if 8:30 (or whatever) would be more convenient.

Something like that, OP. Just get it. If it goes in the mail, you'll never see it. Trust me.

Call him. Speak, don't text.

Yes, you should keep pursuing it.

I am surprised how often people get injured or sick very early on in a temp position and bail on the rest of it.

I worked Monday April 4 for a couple while their nanny (a friend of mine) was away. I was asked to work Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, but unfortunately I sprained my ankle on one of the porch steps, and had to leave around 4:00. I called dad to see if he could come home, which he did. I apologized for what happened, and thanked him for employing me for the time I was there.
He mentioned that he needed my address to send me a check for the time I worked, and it told him I would text it to him. I have yet to see any check and it's been 2 weeks today. They were out of town the week after this happened. I texted my address, and they said they would have a check in the mail to me when they got back. I texted the dad last Friday as a gentle reminder, and I have heard nothing back from either parent.
Needless to say, I'm pissed off. I don't work for free. They were such a nice couple, but I'm thinking otherwise now. Should I keep pursuing this, even though it's getting more and more awkward? I worked from 8:30 til 4:00 for $20 per hour ( their suggestion).
