And as for the references, my most recent references (expect the part time employee I was with for 3 years and left for this FT job) was families through the agency. Since I had a par time job throughout all my time with the agency I only took back up and temps jobs so those families couldn't be used as a reference. I had the employee I was with for three years prior to this job and she was always very willing to help out with references as we still have a close relationship, but I did not want t keep bothering them with giving out references. We all know in this field it takes a couple of interviews to find the right job.

All I'm hearing is excuses. Agencies don't cut off nannies without a reason. Temp jobs can be references, depending on the circumstances.

You clearly never worked with an agency before and if you did please I am curious to know which Great agency this is that allow nannies to contact their families for reference as a reference when you are not wth the agency anymore without breaching your contract.. I would love to hear about this agency!

Than it's even less likely that the agency would cut you off. Also, there's nothing that would stop you from using a family who hired you through the agency as a reference. You were their employee, not the agency's. Now, if you only babysat for them as a backup caregiver, and were an employee of the agency for the backup care program, that would be different, and you shouldn't expect any of them to serve as a reference.

BS. You didn't forget and you aren't sorry for the rambling rant.

You don't get blackballed by an agency that easily. You said that you already had a family say you were unprofessional, and an agency would know if a recurring client was completely nuts (she would have done this before).

OP here--- I completely forgot I had posted this.. I worked as a nanny for 10+years and my experience with White House Nannies was traumatic enough to make me leave the field. They were amazing and I had no complaints up until the situation with this family. I met this high profile family in a job through the agency. She wanted to hire me but she had absolutely nothing to do with the agency. I could've taken the job and the agency wouldn't know, but being the honest person that I am, I brought the family to the agency so they could sign up with the agency and hire me. The agency did not do anything but get an almost 10k check from the family plus a ton of other nanny business from this family because she end up hiring from the agency a full time overnight nanny (Yes she had 3 nannies around the clock 24/7. Anyway, I brought this family to the agency.

The mom loved me, did everything for me, she would do everything and anything to make me happy because she appreciated me working over 60 hours a week. She loved that I offered a lot of flexibility, I could travel with them and took care of those babies as if they were mine. My charges were a set of twins and they were born almost 2 months premature and I started with them 3 weeks after they were born. Beginning of summer I traveled to meet them for the weekend at their home where they spend the summer and we had agreed I would work from Thursday-Monday 9-5 and do two overnights but would have plenty of break throughout the day and the day she needed the overnight I wouldn't work during the day because She had her parents and sister, and husband and other nanny for the oldest son with them so she only wanted to make sure she had coverage for the day and two nights and she was going to pay me 2k for it which was great. I don't make count of every single second worked and I am ok with being flexible because I did truly loved working for them and she was generous. But somewhere in this trip she ended up having me 24/7 from Thursday-Sunday around the clock in a hotel room with the twins (3 months at the time and preemies so technically a month old). You guys who are nannies know how they sleep and the feeding patterns. She was very strict about them being on a feeding and sleeping schedule which equals to not much sleep. At the end of this trip I was mentally exhausted, sleep deprived and stuck in a hotel room for 4 days. So we had a little disagreement because of her unrealistic expectations and calling me out on stuff that never happened.

She was the type of person who was "amazing", the "nicest" person ever, very generous ( besides the overtime but ok). She knew I stopped at Starbucks everyday on my way to her house so she knew I was a Starbucks person and every morning after she came home from her errands she would bring me the drink I always have.. She would give me gift certificate to get my nails done, she would buy my son toys... She was that nice and her family was amazing. She was genuinely the nicest boss I ever had. She was very spoiled and were used to everybody always doing everything for her, but I knew how she was and kept it very professional, never crossed the line with being too comfortable, And always kept my distance because I couldn't afford to lose that job. I loved working for them, it was the best job I ever had and I loved the whole family and their staff. She was very demanding but I was ok with that. She was the type she was really nice UNTIL she doesn't get her way and then she was the worst person I ever met in my life. If you say no to her to stand up for yourself then you become her worst enemy. She was something out of a Mexican telenovela. The things she does to people she didn't like was anything I ever imagined people actually do and somewhere in this trip she turned against me and I didn't even know it. To this day I don't know what happened.

All I know was that I got a call from the agency a week after I came back from this trip saying she didn't need me anymore and as much as I was in shock because it was out of nowhere I understood if she felt like I wasn't a fit anymore but this is when the agency fail on me who had been a very reliable and trustworthy employee to them. They trusted me on some big responsibilities in some big jobs with their major clients and their feedback was always positive from my understanding. Out of hundreds of families I worked with through the agency, I only had one family that didn't like me and complained about me being unprofessional which I was but that is a different story. They did not want to hear my side. When Michelle called me I told her the possibilities of what could've gone wrong and she went on to tell me what was the ladies reason which it was all completely absurd and made up stuff with some serious accusations that I have adult mess to the babies. I spoke with her briefly because I was driving and I was hoping there would be more conversation so they can hear exactly how my experience was with them overall but they never did. It was like I was nobody, it was like I committed a crime and I was never given the opportunity to even sit down and talk to them since this was a very complex situation. They never even have Richard or Barbara call me. The lady kept making more accusation and Denise just cut me short with an email saying they can't work with me anymore. Nobody gave me the opportunity to speak.
I am not sure if Barbara or Richard was even aware of how everything went but I would've thought that with a valuable employee they would at least give the benefit of the doubt and sit down and hear my side. I just felt like They were completely dismissive and treated me like I was nobody. That caused me a extreme financial hardship because the family was going to be gone for the whole summer and it was our agreement that I wasn't gonna get paid for the two months but I was ok because the agency always kept me busy with temp jobs. So here I am almost a month only doing temp jobs and all the jobs I had lined up with the agency was stopped and I was left with no job, no nothing. To this day I am still recovering financially from the hardship this has put me in. I don't know what would've happened with paying rent and feeding my son if it wasn't for my mom.

Before starting with this family I worked PT with a family I was with for 3 years so I had her as a reference and All my other jobs was temps through the agency so I couldn't use the families as reference to find another job. I had references from The PT job I was with for 3 years and other families from the past but they are all very busy family and I didn't want to have all this families contacting them for reference. It was so traumatic I decided to leave the field because I don't think any human being should be treated in such way and not given the opportunity to speak.

Sorry for the "book" venting about this and the rambling.. I just feel like if we all share bad experiences it could help us become more cautious when working with agencies and prevent being victims of agencies like this who doesn't care about their nannies.

Lots of us have had very bad experiences with nanny agencies. And they continue to behave badly. They need to be regulated.
