I'd put my foot down too, and if there is some urgent health emergency going on in her life, she will not be able to be a nanny anyways. Maybe to older kids but not hustling around with toddlers.

Frankly anyone who went to their boss asking for 5 hours off a week would look like a selfish fool. Do your appointments early AM, late PM, weekends or aggregate them together and take one day off.

I agree with a PP, daycares never tell you they aren't showing up.

Nanny here- I bring the kids to my appts. They read a book. It's called life, and yes I have my bosses permission. They told me I don't even have to ask anymore, they'd rather I take the kids than not come to work. I think it's ridiculous taking off time to go to the doctor. What would a sahm do??

Sounds like she needs a 4 day a week job or half day job or something like that. I can see needing time off if she's being tested for cancer or something, and the divorce court things she has no control over. The airport thing...inexcusable...either tell the kid to take an evening/weekend flight or have him find alternate transportation. Dentist...find a dentist with Saturday or evening hours.

I'd start looking if I were you OP, and I'd give the warning to her TODAY. One more and she's out.

It's not up to the nanny to pay for childcare. The purpose in hiring a nanny is to provide your children with care in your absence, not to make one's life easier. That makes zero sense.

If she's using PTO/vacation and is giving a minimum of 2 weeks notice of when she needs off, I don't see an issue with it. If she's blown through all of her paid time and is now racking up unpaid time, that's different.

She sounds unorganized, especially at scheduling. She needs to ask you first which dates you are free, not tell you.
She's a nanny, there to provide reliable service. Yet she does not sound reliable.

How many personal appointments do you take? If she is ish,t her vacation or unpaid time then you cannot complain. Life happens, even to nannies!

She has been with you a long time and has done an excellent job of taking care of your children. Stop complaining and be helpful to her.

Agree. She needs to be an afternoon only nanny or something more flexible given her personal needs and priorities. sorry.

We are at our limit. Our nanny of three years has been needing to take appointments during the week on too frequent a basis. It is negatively affecting both of our jobs, time and share of mind. She has 5 trips to divorce court, she has 4 trips for "testing" at a doctor, she has to pick her adult kid up at the airport, then another half day to drop the adult kid off at the airport, dentist, more testing, etc., etc.

This either causes us to take half day vacations to care for our two children or waste time at the office emailing/texting with nanny to find mutually good appt times for her and ua to take off or we email/call all the sitters and backup care to find someone with availability. It's a joke and we're giving her a warning soon. A full time nanny job is not for her, or she needs to work less hours. I'd rather have one nanny for the kids, not two so she will be let go. Not to mention all the time she is on her cell phone on the job scheduling and chatting.
