The only people mucking up the play room all day are the paid nanny and two kids. Why wouldn't the nanny clean it up?
And doing a quick vacuum is definitely part of childcare.

Kids that age generate a lot of mess, I don't see how cleaning up after them and keeping a clean play area is NOT the job of a full-time nanny. That includes wiping down tables, sweeping and vacuuming almost daily. And it sounds like one kid is at school half the day!

Grow up or you will get easily and quickly replaced.

If you used to clean up after the children more than you do now, please recognize that your employers are going to feel frustrated and they aren't going to increase the cleaning service to make up the difference. They will replace you with a nanny who is willing to vacuum the play area weekly (or even bi-weekly considering that there is a cleaning service!). If they are the types who leave the kitchen spotless for you, they are going to notice a week's worth of debris in the playroom.

What they are asking is completely reasonable, but if you feel that it's too much for you, then you may be better off with a different position.

How big is the playroom and the living area?

You can vacuum the playroom on Monday morning and the living area on Tuesday. Or whatever day that you want to do.

I have nannied for this family for 2.5 years, there is now a 9 mo old and a 2.5 yo. I get in to start breakfast for the toddler and then the MB takes her to pre-school from 8:30-12 noon and I stay with the baby. We go pick up the toddler at noon and I have both children until 5 or 6pm. I also cook a lot of food for the kids and do their laundry.

The other day DB and MB told me I need to start vacuuming the play area again, weekly. I used to do that on Fridays but with the second child they got a cleaning service every two weeks so I stopped vacuuming anything. I do sweep up in the kitchen - basically the family leaves the kitchen spotless for me, and I try to leave it spotless for them.

I told them I don't have time to vacuum the living room or play room with the two kids around. The mentioned my mornings with one and the joint afternoon nap time, but I need a rest too. MB seemed upset and said I have to start doing the 10-15 minutes of vacuuming the children areas; she came back from a 3 day business trip and the carpet there was disgusting and it needs to be vacuumed every 4 days like it used to be. DH was upset too, he said they are getting tired of cleaning up after the weekday use of the living and play room and that I used to do more.

How much laundry am I supposed to be doing? Is two loads a week a lot?
How much vacuuming am I supposed to be doing? Do I have to vacuum if they have a cleaners come every 2 weeks?
