Bull shit. They skirted OT laws. Your logic would allow anyone to get out of paying OT by claiming they were paying overtime just at a lower rate. That's ridiculous. You can't just change the pay rate for hours over 40. That's not how overtime works.

When you treat your employees disrespectfully (skirting overtime) then fire them, you deserve whatever consequences you get.

Go to wage and labor board a and report them. Did they pay you straight time for the extra hours? Never again let an employer screen you and report this abuse immediately. Good luck.
