1. She worked 2 months, so it was $2400.
2. You don't have to pay social security or medicare if it's less than $2000 for the year, but you still are supposed to report it and pay income taxes.

In this case, the deal was that it was an off-the-books (illegal, but, whatever) cash deal. So the IRS rules are irrelevant. I just want to make sure nannies don't get the wrong information.

Liar.

According to the state, you need a license to watch somebody's child who is not your own. This is for daycares in your own home whether you have 1 or 8 kids. They won't do anything of any consequence. There are a million unlicensed daycares and they don't anything to them.

OP you are free and clear. Cut off all communication with them.

Tell them that if they want to use your information for tax purposes that they will also be required to back-pay your wages as they were paying less than minimum wage. Then inform them that when you receive said check that you will share your social with them. Lesson learned op. Be sure that you are being up front about this. The same thing happened to me when I was working part time in college. They wanted my information for tax purposes and they weren't getting it. We worked it out but I learned my lesson.

Unless you have some type of paper trail connecting you to them, then technically you didn't watch their baby. No checks/contracts.

However having text messages and/or emails may be a bit problematic, but am not sure OP.

When they initially hired you & payment was discussed, did they actually mean "off the books" when they brought up payment??
Even though cash means cash (under the table), some people still do not get it.

If they said you would be paid that way, then did a switcheroo on you, they suck balls.

This. Cut it off cold. They had extremely cheap childcare at illegal wages, they don't then get to bully you into giving up your SSN for the tax write off.

Yes I received $1200 CASH a month to care for a 7 months old baby. 50 to 55 hrs a week. YES I KNOW IT IS CHEAP!! but I do it at my place and just looking for some extra money. Never discussed about tax etc - no contract etc.

I worked for this family for 2 months ONLY. Their favorite daycare had opening so they moved their baby there.

Now they want my SSN to do their taxes.

I told them this was not discuss before. $1200 is cash (off the book) if I know they want to do the taxes I will charge more!

What should I do?
