This is a stupid matter of semantics, people:

$20 hourly rate plus overtime paid at 1.5:
$20(40) + $30(10) = $1100

$22 average hourly rate:
$22(50) = $1100

WHO CARES WHAT YOU CALL IT???

PP here. Sorry - should have specified - an average hourly rate of $20 an hour. We wrote the contract so that the first 40 hours were lower base rate, and the last five were higher. It worked for us and the nanny - and it was crystal clear in the contract and discussed ahead of time so there were no misunderstandings. OT requirements did mean that we didn't use her for babysitting as the rate was more than I wanted to pay.

Yeah, too much spin for your convoluted tale. Troll.

Nope, no idea why a $20/hr average rate seems like a troll to you. Granted, in retrospect, she should have been making more as she was awesome and we loved her, but that is what we paid. We are a bit better off financially so this time around when we hire again this summer, we'll pay better. I will again do the average hourly rate, again though. That seems fairly routine, at least in my circles...

As long as you are abiding by OT laws, you're fine. However, if you aren't, you run the risk of the nanny suing you for those hours. Good luck to you.

We paid a blended rate of $24 (48 hours per week, with 8 OT hours and 40 regular hours, averaging out to $24). Nanny was very experienced and professional. Also paid a transportation and health care stipend and a Christmas bonus of one extra weeks salary. And paid 2 weeks paid vacation.

$20-26 It all depends on the nanny, I think its wrong to put all nannies in the same box, offer x regardless of their experience and qualification. Some are just better at what they do than others, so they deserve it.

Total number of hours was 45 a week guaranteed). I imagine when we start looking for a nanny again this summer for an infant, the market will have increased a bit by a dollar or two...

Of course you paid OT wages for OT, correct?

What's the going rate for what you and your husband do? See how ridiculous that question is?
