MB here- agree on late night sitting at your normal rate. (maybe capped at $100, if it goes later than 2am and you actually do sleep over, but don't offer that at first, stick to hourly rate)

OP, I agree with all the others. This is late night sitting, not a situation that gets an overnight rate. Did your employers mention a different rate? Did you? Is there any reason to think they do not plan to pay you your hourly rate?

This isn't really an overnight. It is late night sitting. I would expect the same $17/hr. No more, because the kid will be sleeping, but no less, since you'll be up till 2 presumably.

How is $17/hr legal if she already put in 40 hours?

Uhhh this is babysitting so $17/hr obviously. Overnight rates only apply when the parents go out of town.

As an MB, I would expect to pay you $17/hr.

I would pay your normal hourly rate (with OT, if applicable ) but I believe that your time is as valuable to you as mine is to me. If you are on OT, then your hourly OT rate from time you begin until they come home.

Good Morning Everyone,

I work for a wonderful family in the DC area. They pay me $17/h for taking care of an infant. Today for the first time, my employers asked me if I could work next Friday night (after my daytime shift) from 8pm to 2am, because they will be attending an event. The baby usually falls asleep around 9pm. I am not really sure what rate to charge between the hours of 9pm and 2am. Suggestions and advices are welcome. They gave me a room and allow me to spend the night there in case if they come back home later than 2am or if I don't feel like driving myself home. They are really nice people. Although, we never discussed overnight rate, I want to be fair with them.
