I am a nanny in my late 50's. I am retired from my "civilian" job, live in a paid off house and we have paid off cars. I nanny for fun and for pocket change. I won't do more than 20 hours a week. I burn out if I work more than that. And if I am burnt out, I am cranky. And if I am cranky, I am not a good nanny. Nobody wants that. Not me, not the kids, not the parents. So I live frugally but happily.

Perhaps the nanny is working too many hours, her family is adding chores & kids to the mix or it might be time to choose another line of work.

While very rewarding, being a nanny can be physically as well as mentally draining. It also can be lonely and isolating and the hours may be quite long with low pay too.

It is definitely not for everyone. Those that like the water cooler talks will not be happy at all.

Hopefully this helps!

How do you like the rest of your work?
What are the parents doing to make your work a negative experience?

Any suggestions for nannies that feel like they are burnt out? Wondering if it's just because the parents are awful or if it's time for a career move.
