We pay the premium directly to insurer each month. Keep copies of the checks. We keep a copy of her card and she brings us the bill each month. Like PP, we helped with sign-up as it is very confusing for those new to process. If you use the exchange - she can authorize you to assist or you can walk her thru online. Ehealthinsurance is good too.

We did the same as 11:52 - we gave her the money and she paid. We helped her find a plan because she wasn't super internet saavy but that seemed to work out best for all.

I talked to breedlove and they suggested the nanny get the coverage on her own and we pay the bill, that way if she leaves our employ she doesn't have to change her insurance.

The tax CREDIT is only good for a max of two years, so keep that in mind. To get it, you will need to buy the plan through SHOP, the small business version of Obamacare.

You can, however, still do the thing where you reimburse your nanny for her premium (or pay it directly) with untaxed money. As long as you have only one employee, this is still legal. There are no additional credits for this besides not having to pay payroll taxes on it.

We compared the plans under the individual exchange and SHOP. The SHOP plans were better, but slightly more expensive. We ended up choosing a Gold level SHOP plan. I'm in Georgia, and my nanny is young (25), so those factors of course affected the premiums and plan offerings.

I'd like to offer to share the cost of our nanny's health insurance. I know there have been several threads on health insurance, but I can't seem to figure out how whether I'd qualify for any of the employer tax credits associated with covering some of the monthly premium. Basically, we know how much we can afford each month, but if we get a tax credit in addition, we could pay a larger portion of the premium or offer the nanny a better plan. Thank you for any tips.
