I don't think you need to keep in touch. About 3-4 weeks before you're due to move in I would email again and just check in. You don't really have anything to keep in touch about at the moment, do you?

This is why I don't sign on for a position that starts more than one month out. I would prefer to have 3-7 days between accepting the offer and start date (moving in those 3-7 days) rather than not have communication with the family for an extended period of time.

As a nanny, I would like some contact prior to moving in, but that is just how I am.

Other people, not so much.

I think since this particular family does not seem very expressive in general, then take a step back for now and keep communication minimal.

Or perhaps they were pretty occupied during the holiday season and need a few weeks for things to get back to normal again.

However, wishing someone a Merry Christmas warrants a response as a courtesy.

Perhaps they do not celebrate Christmas?

As a live in nanny this can be tricky. I live across the country so when I get hired my employers need to buy me a plane ticket. This typically takes a few emails or texts going back and forth over the course of maybe 2-3 days. But I typically start jobs about 4-6 weeks after I'm officially hired. So by the time I have my plane ticket I may be leaving to fly there in 3-5 weeks. Typically the parents reach out about a week before my start date asking random questions and I of course give them my flight info the day before I fly and we discuss where to meet in the airport. But yes a good 4 weeks can go by with no communication. I wouldn't be comfortable with months going by.

Maybe email her in about 2-3 weeks and just say I wanted to check in with you and see how things are going. I like to keep open communication going before I start my jobs so that I know we are all on the same page.

How did they start communicating with you? Some people prefer text, some email and some phone. Find out what they prefer and use that. I'd reach out one more time as the holidays can get busy. Otherwise I'd be concerned and look for a back up plan.

So I found a nanny position, I was interviewed, hired and signed the contract. Now we barely keep in touch. The position doesn't start for another couple of months (mom hasn't given birth yet). It's live in. I'm scheduled to move in a month early. I emailed and said Merry Christmas butt they don't seem very responsive. I know I have the job but what's a good way to maintain the relationship even though the job hasn't started yet?! Hope this isn't confusing.
