Yes, the parents and both children are invited. It's a casual garden wedding, nothing fancy required And we are reasonably close - we aren't friends but I am invited to birthdays and Christmas parties (and attend). We all like each other very much, and I'm still very loved by the kids. I'm very excited they'll be coming, she will be the cutest. She's already declared she will be wearing an Elsa dress

In theory this is a lovely idea.

If the family and you are close, they are laid back and you have played a HUGE part in your charge's life, it would be okay to ask.

However, if the relationship was strictly business then I would refrain.

How are they financially? Because I am sure they would need to purchase fancy attire too. Would the parents also be invited to your wedding?

Thanks everyone! It is local and she'll be 4.5 by the time of the wedding; they enthusiastically accepted and I'm thrilled they're all going to be there Even MBs mom texted to congratulate me!

Depends on your relationship with the family - if you're still close then of course it's okay to ask. I think it's probably okay to ask in any case, all you risk is an 'oops, looks like we're tied up that weekend, sorry'. I would absolutely love to have a few of my charges at my wedding and am sure the parents would not mind. Now if only George Clooney would finally return my calls!

13.00 here. I hadn't considered location. If it's a local wedding, you'll have more luck. If the charge is 9+, the parents might be willing to drive to a wedding which was further out, but they would be very unlikely to allow their child to travel by themselves.

It would depend on how old the child is. If the child is 4-10, I would ask them to be a flower girl or ring bearer. Younger than 4 and the parents would be trying to keep track of the child. Older than 10 and the child is too old. I would definitely consider asking a former charge who is 11 or older to be a bridal attendant, or an usher if they were more comfortable with that. I would be more hesitant about asking the parents about a current charge versus a former charge with whom I was still in contact.

Of course it's ok to ask. There could be reasons why they might not be able to participate - so be prepared for a no. But if you're all still close I think it's a lovely thing to ask, and maybe a truly wonderful memory for the little girl.

Just what it says. I am planning a wedding and would love to have my former charge as the flower girl; okay to ask? I've never planned a wedding before so I don't know how much of an imposition it would be? Or if it would seem strange. I stopped working for them FT in June 2014, still see them for babysitting every couple of months.
