Considering that you got a monetary bonus as well as are paid very well, I wouldn't stress over a card...Unless it had the children's pictures on it. You know...Those photo holiday cards...

Not all of us nannies got a bonus (like me!). I did however receive a Christmas card though.

Which I would gladly trade for a ca$h bonus.

Merry Xmas to you.

I don't want filler gifts but a handwritten card is worth more than the cash to me. I'm well paid I don't rely on my bonus. That money will be spent on something I'll probably forget about in 6mths. A thoughtful card-,gold.

Girl bye! You know darned well you want the money. Just like money isn't everything neither are words. Your family should express their gratitude and love year round. It shouldn't just be on a piece of card stock once a year that they hurried and threw in the cart while at publix

As a nanny who's always received thoughtful cards and rarely received a decent bonus, I find this difficult to relate to.

Some of my MBs did write very genuine cards full of praise and gratitude, and although those are appreciated, those MBs were the same ones who ALWAYS found ways to show their appreciation throughout the year (again, with thoughtful words, not money typically), so I already knew how they felt. Many of my MBs were...passive aggressive bitches, and they'd still write a lovely card, but I knew they didn't really mean it. Those MBs were the WORST when it came to cash bonuses or spends gifts, too.

I have kept the nice cards from the MBs who I know truly appreciated me, but they're packed away in a box and I'm always tempted to toss them to reduce clutter in my tiny apartment. I tossed the cards from the not so nice MBs immediately. In every case I would've preferred cash.

The most money I've ever received as a Christmas bonus was $500; I've never received a full weeks salary. I don't think it's because they were unhappy with me, because they all continued working with me a long time and always highly recommended me to their friends for evening babysitting, etc.

This is my first year with my new family, after spending the last 4 years with my previous NF. I started with my new family in February. They're first time parents and I'm crossing my fingers they'll give me a decent bonus (my last day before Christmas is tomorrow).

Not foolish. I get paid more than enough to fully fund my IRA every year and invest after savings.

I put value in sentiment and words.

Then you are foolish. My bonus goes directly into my savings and bonds.

I have never once gotten a card. Written appreciation or anything. I am paid well and I get a bonus. Its direct deposit so it doesn't feel personal at all.

I would rather get half my bonus and a thoughtful card any day

Of Course! I mean who wouldn't want a candle or bath and body works basket + $500 over the entire $1000

Well for Christmas this year my bosses gave me a bar of soap. It was nice soap, granted, but really? For the record I am not well paid and they are not otherwise generous flexible or understanding. Nice people, but they don't take me seriously. It sucks to feel unappreciated. Sorry OP.
