Thanks everyone! I'll just pay her for the 1 vacation week. I realize airfare isn't required --- she hasn't seen her family in years and we wanted to help her out.

Guaranteed pay doesn't apply, as she won't be there. She's taking more than is in the contract, and you definitely aren't required to pay for her airfare!

That's extremely generous, don't worry about it.

You're paying for her airfare AND holding her job for a whole month? Way more than fair!

Our nanny of 4 years is going back to South America to see her family for 1 month in February. Our terms are 2 weeks paid vacation - 1 week of our choosing and 1 week of her choosing. We are taking our 1 week vacation after Christmas, which she will have off and be paid. We are paying for her airfare home to see her family.

I have to hire extra help when she is gone for the month and think I'll only be paying her the 1 week of paid vacation time she is owed.

Is this fair and what is expected? We never discussed it when she asked to take the month off.
