That's different you said "one week". It's the holidays and this clearly was intended as a bonus especially if it was her normal rate times 2

I don't think it's clear at all. I think it's far safer to check, or presume an error, than to presume it's a bonus.

I don't think its a mistake to accidentally double someones pay. An extra 0 or $15 or so sounds like a mistake or miscalculation. But I think actually doubling it is done on purpose.

OP what happened?

I accidentally gave my cleaning lady $100 more than her normal rate one week because I was exhausted and trying to do 10 things at once. She called or texted the next day and I appreciated her honesty because it was in fact a mistake.

First clarify that it isn't a mistake, but I seriously doubt anyone who writes a personal check to someone else would make a mistake in the amount.

Then let her know you are very grateful for the extra cash and let her know how great her kid is!

Congrats OP!~

I too, would ask if it was intentional. Just say you just noticed the check was X and should have been Y and does she want you to send the check back or tear it up and she sends you a new one. This allows her to save face if it really was a mistake and it doesn't make you look greedy and like you were expecting a bonus but allows her to say that's what it is (or it really was a mistake.)

MB here. I'd say something like:

"Hi Jane. I just looked at my check and saw that you had written it for twice as much as you actually owed me. I didn't want to assume that was intentional, but also wanted to say thanks if it was?!"

I would ask if it was a bonus, but say if it was, thanks. I would make it all one text.

A babysitting client wrote my check for double what it should have been. She didn't say anything last night and I just noticed it this morning. I'm assuming it's a Christmas bonus. Do I just text to thank her, assuming it's a Christmas bonus?
