I always negotiate for salary, but it's based on the maximum number of hours the family would have me work. Your contract should have rate specifically spelled out, either X/hour or $Y for no more than Z hours per week.

It does not matter what the contract says because FEDERAL law mandates that nannies ARE HOURLY EMPLOYEES. You must be paid overtime for all hours worked over 40 hours per week.
You need to present them with an invoice for overtime for all the hours worked this far. You can get help from your local wage and labor office. You also need to find another position.

When hired I agreed to be flexible if needed. I was told it would be 9am - 5pm M-F. I have been working 11 1/2 hour days! My contract states this - nanny will receive a base salary per week, which is based on the total hours in a weekly work schedule multiplied by the nannies hourly wages In my contract it does not say that I work a 40 hour weeks schedule… I was verbally told that. I'm confused on the way this is worded, can they make me work these extra hours because it doesn't say 40 hours per week i& being salaried? I am exhausted working these hours and picking up weekends here and there. I'm just trying to see if anybody else is contract is worded like this and how I go about discussing I want to 40 hours
