I was in a similar situation and I ended up getting an American nanny from the mid-west who for some reason never learned to drive. She moved here to be with her bf who ended up being abusive. She moved in with me and saved my life. Other employers were not giving her the time of day. Of course I was so appreciative and definitely did not demand 24x7 work. It worked well all around. I helped her, who was actually trying to stand up on her own, taught her how to drive, get a driver's license, helped her buy a cheap reliable car from my family member, and after two years, she found a higher paying job and I was fully supportive as my baby was ready for daycare anywhere where she could get more social interaction.

It worked out well for everyone.

No need for you to be upset. It has nothing to do with you.

No, they don't learn their lesson. They get horrific care, then scream bloody murder on the news when things go bad. What do you expect?

Not offensive at all. If the ad said muslims need not apply...now you have offensive.

It's illegal, that's why it's offensive. It's not even minimum wage!

That is stupid to make assumptions without knowing the hours etc. of the job. Report back when you have the actual details.

It's not offensive. It's call capitalism. And since there are no hours listed, we have no idea if the rate is above, below, or on target.

If the rate is too low, no one will want the job. Problem solved.

I think the worst offense this ad has projected is that the writer cannot spell.

Exactly. Plus, no abused person is ever "happy" with being abused.

Who has the energy to waste on being offended by this kind of junk? Just ignore it. They'll learn eventually - either no one will apply or the people who do apply will horrify them. But either way it isn't your concern.

What's most egregious is that sittercity and care allow these illegal ads. These shameful sites are obvious venues for con artists.

Ad posted on sittercity:
Hello, I am in need for an experienced, caring, energetic LIVE IN nanny to take care of my two months old son. The ideal candidate MUST has experience working with infants. If you are the ideal candidate please send me a message including a brief summary about you, and your contact information. Than you and I am looking forward to hearing from you all.

No hours or days listed, which in my experience means that you're expected to be available 24/7 even if you only work 40 hours per week. And the pay for this position? $850/month.

I really don't understand how parents can advertise for an exceptional nanny for that rate. It boggles my mind.
