If a family does not offer full disclosure to their nanny and videotapes her without her knowledge, then just by that ONE act of betrayal...Why should she trust them when they tell her the bathroom is not being filmed as well?

God only knows how many crazy people are recording you in their bathroom with their hidden cameras. Soon we'll all want to carry one of those little camera detectors. You can get one online for less than $99. So worth it.

I cannot believe the PP who stated if their nanny forgot to close the bathroom door then she was the stupid one. How disrespectful of you to speak about your nanny like this.

I would be annoyed if my employers knew when and how long I used the bathroom. That is just over the line outrageous. If someone went that far to watch their nanny then that is a sign that they need to stay home and watch their own children.

I often have to leave the bathroom door open while I'm legally responsible for my charges.

Some of the use of these cameras is outright egregious, and need to be regulated when used with in formal business relationships.

You don't know how the footage may be used, or where it may be shared on the internet.

Nanny here. This is definitely a violation of camera laws, and you need to either change where the camera is or notify your nanny. There are a number of reasons why a nanny wouldn't close a bathroom door while her charge is in the next room.

Welcome. Have you read any of the threads on this forum about the use of secret and not so secret cameras? That'll be the most candid information you'll ever get.

The cameras do not "keep children safe" as you suggest, but they can certainly verify abuse after the fact. That's a little late, isn't it?

My name is Anna and I am not only going to be a first time mom, but I am also working on a European documentary about parenting in the US. In this documentary we talk to parents about their parenting styles and we discuss some of the new technologies that parents can use to keep their children safe. One of the technologies that we would like to discuss in the 'nanny cam'. I heard and read a lot about it but so far I haven't met anyone that uses it. For our documentary we would find it very interesting to hear more about what parents use it for and how it works. The documentary is produced by ARD, Germany's largest TV Network. We have a location in DC but could travel to other places as well.
