...Interesting about the "they will always resent"... I feel that this is true. (I know that I already have that feeling towards them)

But curious- Anyone else attempt to renegotiate, obtain new pay structure- but with it, get bad feelings?

Quit. Apply for unemployment because this is a valid reason for quitting. You are better off working at a department storebl during Christmas. Just get your paycheck and send an email telling them that you are quitting and why.

Its like we do this just as a hobby- for the fun of it. It's my fulltime job, Ma'am & Sir.

Major faux pas on my part. No written contract. Oy. They are 1st time parents & my childcare experience was all in home day care- where my pay was guaranteed.

We did agree on the hourly/weekly rate ($600) & I (foolishly) assumed because of my previous pay experience that I'd receive paid holidays & at least "her" sick days pay. On day 2 I thought I'd check to make sure we were on the same page. She very quickly said no. Then the nightmare of week 4-5.

I am going to have the conversation this week. Love the baby. Like the family (apart from...). Happy with the job. Unhappy with pay situation.

I think it's fair for you to raise the point - say what you enjoy, if you've otherwise been happy with the job say why, but that you need a predictable income and your first choice would be to get it here, with this family. As such, would MB would open to agreeing to guaranteed base hours?

have guaranteed pay.

I work fulltime for a family. Have only been there 8 weeks. On week 4 his father passed away & they went across country for the funeral & then stayed an additional week visiting family (so that they wouldn't have to go back at Christmas. They gave me 2 days notice & I "lost out" on 8 days pay. ($860)

Just got off the phone with the mom- (I had called to check on the baby) & she says (by the way) I forgot Wed is a holiday (Veterans Day) so I won't need you. Pretty sure my Friday "paycheck" will be shorted by 1 day.

My family seems to think its ok to just say- We don't need you today. & boom- no pay for me. They both make good money- & I know they get paid holidays & vacation.

Is this common practice?
