I work in a huge house right now with 2 school aged children and it's the same thing. When the grandmother visited 3 mos ago she told me they were never "trained' the right way (meaning the kids). It's awful and I can relate!

I got my old family to get a cleaning crew. I told them that it was to hard to keep up with it all in their HUGE house and their two kids. So they got a cleaning crew once a week. But other than that they are messy people. That is one reason I resigned. I can not stand it and can't stand it when parents don't teach their children to clean up after themselves either.

I once worked for a family with garbage and clutter all over their home. They never vacuumed, swept, or even cleaned the toilets. Ever. They left it to me to clean up their kitchen, including huge sinkfuls of their dirty dishes, and all the kids' rooms of the huge mess that they'd accumulated over the weekend. Every single Monday. Needless to say I didn't stay there long. The worst part is that of course, the only time I'd ever seen their house remotely tidy was for my interview. False advertising at it's best.

Pp here - oh yea, and this family never not once vacuumed or swept, and I'd also find garbage all over the floor. It wasn't uncommon to see unscrubbed areas of cat vomit either. Do not work for families like this.

I've been through this plenty of times. I worked for a family who I swear had to have been hoarders. Their house was a cluttered, huge mess. Id keep it in check, more or less, during the week, but Monday's I'd return to a MESS - all the kids' toys dumped out everywhere, dirty dishes piled up, disgusting counters... I finally quit. My bottom line is as much as I'd like to, I can't change anyone!!

Filthy people should not employ nannies. If they don't stay tidy or pay cleaners to do it, they probably have no clue about nanny expectations. Someone probably told them the nanny is a housekeeper. So pathetic.

I would come into work and pots would be on the stove full of food from the night before or weekend, or they would take it out of the fridge and then leave it on the counter. ugh i sympathize OP my last family was a mess. Mondays were the worst for the kitchen. Both sides of the sink would full of dirty dishes and the counter would also. If i wasn't taking care of an infant back then it wouldn't have bothered me so much but i also had to clean bottles. And of course they were kind enough to not clean any of those themselves all weekend either. smh

Can she afford a cleaning person?

Do you think the reason she is being so lazy/sloppy is because her thought is, "Well my nanny is coming in a few days so she will just clean up after me and my dog..."

If that is the case, she is wrong.

You are only responsible for cleaning up any messes made during your stay. That is it.

Try to work "around" her mess, but the dog poop would be a toughie for me. Yuck.

And if it just grossed you out to keep the mess in tact, talk to your MB and let her know how you feel.

I do not live in filth and I would refuse to work in filth no matter how much pay was offered. Find another job.

HAHAHA!!! This takes the term "first world problems" to a new level. The dog poop is gross, Ill give you that, and the rest is inconvenient but certainly not "damaging".

I love my job, but I'm dreading mornings at work, especially Monday mornings.
I never know what I am going to walk into - dog poop from the night, grocery bags all over the floor that she didn't feel like putting away the night before, dishwasher filled with clean dishes + sink full of dirty dishes because nobody bothered to unload the dishwasher during the weekend, random crap on the table and counters, spices or whatever they used with dinner the night before all over the counters, leaves on the kitchen floor because the door to the deck is open and the wind is blowing them in..

Ahh.. if I could change ONE thing, it would be for them to pick up after themselves more..
