Does she have health coverage?

Perhaps she doesn't and also does not have the funds to pay a Dr. at this time.

She may have a busy schedule or her M.D. may be very good so getting an appointment with him is a wait.

Or she could be putting it off as low priority.

December is too late for the flu shot in my opinion...I would keep insisting to her that she needs to have everything done by Nov. 15th.

Is your nanny Hispanic, OP? I overhead a group of Latina nannies talking about how they lie to their employers about getting vaccinated.

I would verify that she gets the vaccines she needs or fire her. Demanding proof is standard practice if you work in a hospital -- either you get the flu shot at work or your bring proof from your doctor that you got it.

I suspect OP isn't providing health insurance. If that's correct, OP needs to offer to directly pay for the vaccines. Also, nanny likely needs some time off to accommodate the doctor's availability.

Employers should never expect a nanny to have to cough up cash, and then wait to be reimbursed whenever it's convenient. That's just not reasonable to expect. Of course some nannies may be ok with it, and that's fine for them.

I think a good compromise is asking her to get on a cancellation list and be willing to give her last minute paid time off to go get it done. I think she has a right to use her primary physician.

I agree that December is too late, though I think it's a tough thing to enforce.

How young are your daughters? The younger they are the more aggressive I would be with this. For babies, and given that it was a condition of employment, I would say that you need her to get that done within the next two weeks and you will be happy to reimburse her if the shot isn't covered by insurance.

Is it just the Flu shot or does she need another one?

As a condition of emlpoyment we required our nanny to get Flu Shot.
She agreed to this when we hired over the summer, saying she would have it done by flu season.
She is now with us caring for our daughters. She is a great nanny for the most part, yesterday I followed up with her on her vaccinations she said she hadn't yet, but would likely be getting them soon.
I found that unsettling but pressed a bit, and she told me she prefers to have her regular doctor give the vaccine instead of going to one of the minute clinics.
Should I be concerned she is hiding something from me?
Her appointment isn't until December isn't that a bit late?
