Why would I have to justify any of it to my husband? Who do you think pays the nanny salary?

Nobody asked you so shut up

Having a good day, PP?

Like most things, it is the nanny's responsibility of the family and nanny agree to it ... Our nanny does give our kids dinner. She sometimes cooks from scratch and sometimes reheats leftovers. It wasn't one of her original responsibilities but it became very clear when older DS started full time school and dropped his nap that he would need to go to bed much earlier, which is only possible if she gives them dinner and she was happy to do it (she loves to cook and I suspect she prefers that to an extra hour at the park). Happily, dinner is not the only time I get to laugh with my kids, hear their stories about their days, etc. And because she feeds them, we get to enjoy bath time, story time and bed time more leisurely rather than having to rush through dinner and all of those things to get the kids to bed in time.

I have had jobs where the parents were home at 5 and did dinner, and jobs where the parents weren't always home at a reliable time and never before 5:30 so I did dinner. Really, it depends on the nature of the parents job. Not everyone has a 9-5 office job where they're home at 5:30 every day. I'd rather do dinner and not be dealing with hungry, grouchy kids who are then only going to see their mom cooking a meal and shuttling them off to bed. If I do dinner then the parents can spend a little quality time with them, even if it's just reading, bath, bed, but no one is hungry and grouchy. (Except maybe the parents, but they'll survive.)

Depends on the situation. If the parent is never home before 6, nanny might prep, maybe cook. If the parent is always home by 5, I would think that they would be able to do it. If the parent is home after 6.30 every night, I can certainly see asking the nanny to cook and start feeding the kids. It all depends on the situation.

Our kids' nanny works 8-6 pm, during which time she handles all three meals.

Often dinner is not completed when I get home, which is fine - she hands off to me. But it is always started.

Sometimes I've started breakfast also. But the basic parameters of the job as we advertised it and she accepted include oversight for all three meals.

Personally, I think dinner is something parents should do with/for their kids at a minimum. But it really depends on the terms of your position.

At my current job I agreed to do meal preparation. I believed that meant lunch and maybe breakfast sometimes. They now have their children eating dinner at 4:30, so they don't have to do it. I like to cook, so it's whatever to me, but I think its kind of sad that I'm the one laughing with their kids as we cook and eat together. Its sad that I'm hearing about their day at school, and listening to their little stories. Its sad that each year the kids have more activities and soon family dinner won't even be possible, and these parents are missing it.

Parents should at least do dinner and bedtime.

Depends on the position. With my current family dinner is on me sometimes that means warming what mob has already prepared and sometimes that means cooking on my own, but I knew that going in.

If your in a position where you should be gone by dinner then you have another issue.
