Most nannies here don't talk about health insurance for the main reason that it's only a perk by law is not mandatory. Some employers doesn't really provide, but give part of it or half of monthly medical insurance.

If I was uninsured, especially with the penaltiesthat exist now, I might want employer provided/subsuduzed health insurance, but I would run the numbers first to see what the best financial choice would be.

Agree.

I gave my current nanny two offers: $18/hr to start, no health insurance (I thought she might be covered elsewhere, and then it would be a meaningless benefit), or $17/hr + health care. She chose option 2, and we used SHOP, where there was only one option, but it was a pretty good BCBS option at the Silver level.

I absolutely care about health insurance, since I have a couple chronic health issues.
I pay my own insurance, part because I want to choose which insurance I have. I'm with Kaiser for convenience and how easy it is with chronic issues to get treatment (a friend with diabetes recommended them).
I would be happy to have my work pay for half my premium, but have never asked. I'm in a program where I only pay the premium and for some meds so I'm generally getting a pretty good deal.

I think it really depends on the person. Maybe that's something to negotiate with the nanny you make an offer to?

I'm willing to take a drop in pay, but only if the plan is the one I would actually want. If the amount you are willing to pay is enough that it's worth more than the drop in pay, perfect. However, if the amount you are willing to pay is less than the amount you would dock my pay and/or the plan isn't one that I find adequate, no, I wouldn't be interested.

Just like you, they're all different. Some will expect it, but some will already have their own in place.

For nannies - do you REALLY care about health insurance and how many employers actually provide/pay for it??! Seems like most nannies don't care...
