Most parents doing shares don't want to bother with the required child proofing.

Right. If it's paid childcare, you have to get licensed for "in-home" childcare. Even if it's only one other child coming over.

For 5 or more kids, you need a state license. For 4 or less, you need a county permit.

I wouldn't think parents would want to license. They don't want to deal with the inspections, regulations and paperwork. But maybe some don't mind it.

You will see that the offices that give out the permits are located in Fairfax County. I can't find Fairfax's document similar to this, but the rules are the same for Falls Church City.

According to the state of Virginia, state licenses are currently required for 6+ children. Starting in July, state licenses will be required for 4+ children.

No idea about county level yet, I'm waiting on a call back. It seems like nobody knows exactly what the answer is without checking.

I would encourage you to fact check before posting.

First of all, the reason that this bill is being signed is because of the high number of deaths this past year (9 children under the age of 2!!) in daycare homes in VA that were unregulated.

Second of all, the requirement before was for home daycares caring for five children or more had to be licensed.

If a nanny share had two kids, one from each family, and both families decided to have another child, then it would still be legal. Five or more is the magic number in this case.

Well, if the regulations state MORE THAN four children, and you're in a share where both families want a second child, then 2 +2 = 4, which is not more than 4.
