I always clarify that if they choose the direct deposit option, then there is a one week delay. They can also elect to get a check on the spot at the end of Friday for the week. Most elect to get the direct deposit.

Yes, with direct deposit (we don't offer any other option, though).

Most payroll services have a one week delay (as with many jobs). This is in our contract with our nanny and we always make sure she knows about the delay before she takes the job. After the first week, our nanny gets paid every Friday by direct deposit.

With my first nanny I gave her a check once a week for that week's wages. She was older and didn't want to do direct deposit. With my second nanny I have direct deposit. I use Intuit household, so have to run payroll before 5pm on Wednesdays. I usually do it on Tuesdays so I don't forget. If something comes up later that ween and she needs to use vacation hours or sick leave unexpectedly, I just correct the pay statement and give it to her the following week. Has worked so far. It is kind of annoying that I wait about a month to get paid myself but, my employee's salary is taken out of my account before she has worked the full week. But it all balances in the end.

I pay on the 15th and the 30th, regardless of when the nanny starts, and no one has ever had a problem with that. I would also agree to an advance or early partial pay the first pay period if someone asked, though.

I agree.

This would be ideal, it seems, from nanny's perspective. But it doesn't seem to work out with most of the payroll systems.

You want to make sure she gets her pay asap, unless she doesn't need it.

What does your contract say?

If your nanny starts on a monday, what are the general expectations for when they'll get the first check? Would the first pay period be that first week with the check being direct deposited the next Friday and then weekly thereafter?
