I did get my au pair a birthday gift. I gave her a Hershey kiss diamond pendant and all of the kids put their kisses in the box it came in before we sang and cut cake. I did give a nanny a going away gift of a music box with an angel looking over a bassinet and had it engraved. I think I got it through things remembered.
If your nanny is being paid on the books then you should know when their birthday is since their birth date has to be written into one of the forms they have to fill out.
