I have a hard time believing MBs who claim to give their nannies $100 or more for their birthdays.

Does your employer give you such an extravagant gift for your birthday? Does your employer even know when your birthday is?

I suspect the posters who claim to be MBs are really nannies.

We give $100 and a card from the kids.

Damn girl! If my HUSBAND gave me all that I'd feel very appreciated!

I did get my au pair a birthday gift. I gave her a Hershey kiss diamond pendant and all of the kids put their kisses in the box it came in before we sang and cut cake. I did give a nanny a going away gift of a music box with an angel looking over a bassinet and had it engraved. I think I got it through things remembered.

If your nanny is being paid on the books then you should know when their birthday is since their birth date has to be written into one of the forms they have to fill out.

You're right. I could look it up or I could just ask her. I didn't mean to imply that the information was unavailable to me, just that I don't have it memorized.

$100. is nice if it doesn't break your bank, or whatever you see fit and can afford.

Yes, I have. We've had two nannies - the first was much like a member of the family so I gave gifts accordingly (jewelry, things she would need or like for her house, etc...)

We have a new nanny and it's a more professional, less personal relationship. For her b'day (when she'd only been with us for a few weeks) I made her chocolate covered strawberries, got her some tea that she loves, and gave her some extra time off.

You need to imagine what she would like. Or just do a photo of your children and money.
