It sounds like she suckered you into the position. I have no doubt that she knew what the hours would be when she was interviewing you, she is just playing dumb now.

Considering you have already missed two class sessions is not good at all.

Tell her in no uncertain terms are you to miss any more classes or your days with her are numbered.

I'm confused. Did your MB think she had a part time job and later discover it was full time? I get it that it can be kind of difficult to hire a nanny to start at the same time you are starting your own mew job, but the first hours you quoted sound like great part time hours that you would have to negotiate for before starting an "office" job, and it would usually come with a decrease in pay. I really don't see how she thought she was working from 8-4 and half days on Fridays, and find out that she actually has full time hours, doesn't see her child much, etc. something is off here, op. Either she lied to you, or she is very ineffecient at her job, or she is depressed and avoiding her child. Whatever it is, I don't think it will change anytime soon.

OP here. I think I'm going to ask her to find a sitter to cover anything over 40 or I will need to leave. She knows how important school is and I am not jeopardizing school for a job.

You cannot miss school. She needs to find a back up plan, be home on time or you find a new job.

That's outrageous. Get a new job and leave. She cares nothing about you or your studies.

Let them know the hours you're comfortable working, and see if they can find someone else to cover the other hours. If not, look for another position- if you let them walk all over you from now, it will only get worse as time goes by!

I am part time student and the hours were a major factor in accepting this new position. MB gave me a set of typical hours but did say they would vary on occasion by 30 minutes here or there. Upcoming week will be my 4th there and the hours have been pretty drastic. MB is in business and DB travels M-TH. My typical hours were 7:30 - 4:30pm M-TH and 8:30 - 12:30. My hours have been more like 6:30/7am starting and sometimes 6pm ending. Friday ( her working at home) has been 7am - 4pm.

There was another family I liked a little better but I turned down there job because it was closer to 50 hours, and I didn't want to take on that workload. Now that school has started, Ive had two miss class once due to MB being late. The 40 hour weeks have now turned into 45-50. I would of accepted other position if I new this. Yes I get OT but not the point. I brought this up to MB but she said there is little she can do on her part since it's work that dictates her hours. I'm just really frustrated.
