As an MB, I think your employer's reaction was extreme. They should have given you a minimum 30 days notice. We had to part ways with our live-in nanny, we gave her 4 weeks notice, it just wasn't fair to her to not give enough notice. Live-in is a very different situation from having a regular nanny.

Check local landlord/tenant laws because I believe-in employees have to be given appropriate (30 days) notice.

If she calls you back, asking for another shot....Tell her where she can go.

If you go back to work for her, you will be selling yourself short each and every time.

Who really wants to be the Plan B. until something better comes along? You will be stressed not knowing if you are on their chopping block or not....

I always stay with family for a week or two between positions.

Thank goodness you have local family. I knew a nanny without local family who had to go to a homeless shelter until she secured a new job.

Why didn't she just rent a room at an extended stay hotel?

She probably could not afford it.

I am sorry, OP. Live and learn. Move forward and know a better job awaits a good nanny.

I hope you told the mom exactly where to go, so sorry Op. What was wrong with your relationship with extended family? I don't get along with the grandparents, but neither does MB so she knows they're crazy.

They found someone cheaper. Just go and never look back.

I took a live-in position with twin toddlers two months ago. Multiple family members in and out of the house (including minors who stayed for weeks), DB was gone for about a month. Average hours per weekday: 11. Average hours per weekend (some doing children's laundry or cooking, not childcare): 6.5. MB consistently praised my work ethic, we discussed and changed nutrition, schedule, dealt with diaper rash which turned into a yeast infection, etc. DB got back and I was told three days later that I was being let go. Salary, not hourly, but competitive wage, certainly the best I've had so far.

Honestly, they're tied for my favorite family. Only a few things that I just don't understand.

Rather than base whether I stayed or not on the interaction between charges and I or parents and I, they looked at my relationships with relatives who aren't there most of the time. Additionally, they have stairs, bookcases which wobble, doors that toddlers can now reach, etc. Naturally, I asked for babyproofing, or to be allowed to do it myself, but I was told that it wasn't necessary and would make it more difficult for them to live there and to resell the house later.

I worked my tail off, and I know that I couldn't have done anything else. I just wish that it would have worked out.

The kicker: MB called this weekend, expressed that if the trial with the new nanny doesn't work (1 month), she'd like me to come back...
