You need to speak up if you'd like to give them an opportunity to improve. You should go home the minute the father walks in. Is he home for the 3 day holiday weekend? Just tell them you'll be back when he needs to go to his office job. His job now is to provide some care for his children and support his wife.

Good boundaries for a good nanny are a good thing.
They'll have more respect for you. Just tell them you need to get some other things done.

I think once I get my weekends back I'll be fine! .....I can handle Monday - Friday over nights if needed but I need weekends for rest and family time. Should I give it a week to see if they let me leave the house before I say something? Like I said they aren't clear on if I can have down time I'm just busy 24/7. I really like the family I just can't be worn out bc I'll quit! I want to try and get most these first 6 weeks

I agreed to temp live here but, it would be nice to have quiet time myself and to see my pets and boyfriend. I am a homebody and am not dealing with this and it's only 4 days into it. I need sleep and have extreme anxiety. In they aren't clear on my schedule just said be flexible first 3 months and prob live here 6 weeks....I hope they understand I need my own quiet time. The father travels and isn't home other then weekends.

You do not work for a great family. I'm sorry OP, but you don't, and what they are doing to you is inhumane. Break the contract, go back home, and start searching for a job with reasonable hours and hourly pay - which nannies are legally required to receive per the FLSA.

To say they're taking advantage of you would be grossly insufficient. They are legally required to pay you for every hour they require you to be there available to jump up into action, even through the night. You need to share your story with a employment lawyer to tell you how to proceed from here. But starting writing everything down. You have a boatload of unexpected money coming your way. You ALREADY earned it.

24/7 is not reasonable. They need to hire a second nanny. I would be concerned long term that they are not going to honor their agreement. I would talk to them and offer 10 hours a day for 5-6 days but you are going home at night and one day a week. What they are asking is not reasonable.

I think we need a lot more information - are you the nanny to the 9 and 4 year old but are just doing the twins for two months? did you agree to watch them 7 days a week?
