Geez OP. Others are right, the only legitimate issue you have is not being paid for your full hours. So start writing down your beginning and end times and at the end of the week preempt them by saying, "I took a look at my hours this week and stayed 15 minutes late twice, so my check should be for $810 this week." Just be a grown up.

I tend to disagree. Big time. Why?

Because they have shown their true colors to you. Some people are just so transparent. They sound sloppy to me, forget about keeping it real.

They take advantage of you by getting an extra fifteen minutes from you for free childcare services. They don't pay you the OT you are legally entitled to.

In all honesty, I wouldn't want to work for anyone who took full advantage of me like this. I want to work for a family who appreciates all I have to offer them.

No matter what you say to them, they are still disrespectful as well as inconsiderate as people.

Sounds like what you are saying is that NF expects flexibility from you, but gives none in return.

This stuff is really petty. Is there something else going on that you a aren't happy there? If this is really it, I would ask your MB to arrange a few minutes where you can sit and chat without the kids and let her know what your concerns are. These are likely easy fixes from her end. I would like to know if my coming in 5 minutes earlier and one additional hour a month pay is the difference between a happy nanny or a pissed off nanny.

Yesterday I got "home" from work early and knowing the nanny still had 18 more minutes, I sat outside on our porch and paid some bills, returned some emails, and put a few things on the family calendar.

It took me 15 minutes. Had I tried to do that with two excited small children hanging all over me it would have taken over an hour and something would have fallen through the cracks.

You're being paid for that time. If they want to sit in their car and decompress by listening to the radio, they'd paid for that right.

Thank you PP I think you're the only response that's understanding what I'm trying to say. I'm not looking to race home or upset if they need want me to stay until 6. The issue is I feel like I'm being nicked and dimed. I can and don't have an issue staying until 6 if they're early. I was once late 5 minutes and believe me I had to stay an extra 5 minutes to make it up. They're late weekly which adds up time I'm not being paid for. I'd they're late 20 minutes a week and if I left one day a week, not everyday just one day a week 15 minutes early it wouldn't bother me.

I agree that this is your only point worth discussing with your employer. You should, of course, be paid for your time.

I don't mind working until 6, I say leaving early because I'm not petty ~if I left early say at 5:50, stayed 15 minutes later as well that week then it would balance out. My point is it's not balanced if I'm staying until exactly my end time when they're on time or staying late 15-20 minutes a week which I'm not being paid for. they are only 15 minutes in total a week? that's fine. and they can pay you pro rata if that is really bothering you

they sit in their car doing work calls, emails until 6pm instead of coming in and letting you race out the door? that's fine, get over it. (BTW, our nanny gets here at 7:15am and sits in her car til 7:30am and there have been no issues on either side).

they changed their mind and wanted you to work on a day the charge had a 1-2 hour appt? sounds fine, they can change their mind, they are paying you $100-200 a day to do something.

you have guaranteed hours on a WEEKLY basis and you want to stick it to them on an DAILY basis for coming in 30 minutes early due to one of their early work obligations? don't be a nanny if that bothers you.

you want "time off"? to do what? You are a nanny, you are there to provide reliable childcare so both parents can do their respective jobs.

You should never expect anyone to let you off early. You are being paid for that time and expected to work.

I am sorry but I don't completely understand your post. What do you mean by "time off"?

When your employer short-changes you on overtime, you must bring it up to them.
