If kids are in my car, I charge EXTRA for that since the IRS doesn't not cover for that sort of severe wear and tear (food, drinks, mud, etc.)

Hope it's a nice vacation destination at least.

No, IRS includes normal wear and tear by anyone, including kids.

Also, they have a much much lower rate if you are driving for a non-profit ($0.14/mile) or medical moving (serving as ambulance) ($0.23/mile).

I have always felt that the IRS maximum is very generous and IRS acknowledges it is the maximum that can be paid for reimbursement, before being considered income that can be taxed. (Otherwise people will say they are paying $50.00/mile to "reimburse" to make it tax-free salary.) It only exists so that people do not abuse it to get around paying tax.

At my professional job I would get IRS max reimbursement rate which is.... 0.54 or 0.57/mile. I can't remember. So round trip would be about $160 and I would get that.

However in nanny industry, I believe it is whatever both parties agree to. Keep in mind the IRS rate is the maximum allowed by law, and not the average rate.

I think some families would pay $150 or $160 depending on their budget. Others may just give you a tank of gas if they are on a tight budget... I think that would be the minimum. You should definitely get something.
