I'm 5ft exactly and weigh 153. I used to weigh around 110.

I don't think it's your weight that is costing you jobs. Now if you were 200 plus yes but at 153 your weight is not ideal but in no way too extreme.

It may be unfair, but I am sure there are some families who wouldn't hire an overweight nanny due to them thinking she won't have the energy to keep up with their little ones.

Same goes for older nannies.

It's all discrimination, but difficult if not impossible to prove since a family will just deny and say that the nanny didn't seem the right "fit." Pun intended.

What city are you in?

DC. Not going to pretend it's perfect, so many foreign horrible nannies, but as I said overweight seems fairly uncommon.

It's not like they tell you, so how would you know why they passed on you? Of course most parents prefer normal weight nannies. But you're right, OP, most nannies are overweight. Dealing with some parents is extremely stressful and can easily be the source of overeating. Employers should learn to be more respectful.

I recently gained about 40 pounds in the last 3 months. I gained weight from switching birth control. I also found out I have PCOS. I am on the short side so it shows. I am trying to do everything I can to lose it. I've been interviewing for another part time position and wonder if my weight is holding me back. It's mostly in my thighs and some in my mid section. I had one person look super surprised when they opens the door. I see a ton of overweight nannies around and they don't seem to have issues With securing a job. I have bought new clothes so I am wearing appropriate sizes. How much has your weight impacted getting a job?
