You need proof of all of the above as well as a criminal background check and verification of identity (government issued picture ID).

Yes to all, OP, including the flu shot AND ask for proof. I have heard nannies talking about how they lied about being vaccinated! Also make sure to ask for a picture ID to verify that the nanny is who she says she is. Ask to see the CPR certification as well.

Criminal background check is vital. Credit check is goofy and you may be pushing good candidates away with that one. Call every reference.

I agree to credit checks only if they do too.

You need to know if you can expect your paycheck on time and it wouldn't bounce.

Take note, nannies.

19:32 here, I think adding First Aid certification, not just CPR would be a better requirement than a credit check.

I say no on the credit check as well. That is absolutely none of their business. Also, I second the poster who said the credit worthiness of the employer is of greater concern. I have never taken so much as a penny from the homes of the people I work for, yet I've had several different families bounce checks to me over the years.

I've had 2 employers run a credit check on me. I'm a nanny. It was apart of a background package they each bought. It wasn't like they just sought out to do a credit check.

It's not ridiculous. Someone is in your home where much of your financial info is. It would be very easy to have an identity theft issue. People with very poor credit often have it because they've made poor financial choices. They may be more likely to steal than someone financially secure.

No it's completely ridiculous and speaks to your boundary issues. What's more likely, a nanny steals from you knowing she'd be the first suspect, or an employer fails to pay for services they've already received and can't afford, knowing nanny has little recourse that'd be worth the effort to recover it? Get a grip people.

Good for you. Plenty of nannies don't get sick. If OP wants her nanny to get one, she can make it a requirement. Plenty of jobs do.

+ 1. You need verification of references, certifications, vaccinations, and a background check.
