Ditto run a search suggestion. Your question is super common. I do not agree with pp's quoted rates especially for Potomac Yard area which is not far from less expensive spots to live.

OP, you are looking at paying $12-15/hr PER FAMILY. That only covers up to 40 hours, anything over that is overtime, time and a half ($18-22.75 per family per hour). You also will have to pay extra money for the nanny's taxes (I'm not sure how that works, I'm just a nanny and my employer uses an accountant, treats me as an employee, and gives me a W-2 every year, at their expense).

I agree with the nanny earning $30/hr for taking on the work with two families.
That is perfectly appropriate.

We have a nanny share with my SIL successfully. Our nanny was open to it. We had been paying our nanny $20 an hour. To take on one extra kid, we bumped the total pay to $30, which means what DH and I had to pay actually went down by $5.
The nannying is done out of our house, and we have a cleaning lady once a week. Our SIL pays for that twice a month, since her kid is making part of the mess.
It's not thrilling that we have to coordinate our vacations, but it's fine.

But from what I know, first of all, parent share is very difficult. I recommend you find another bulletin board. Try googling "Adoption"
If you really meant nanny share, best is to pay 50%/50%. and take turning hosting the baby.
There is a lot of discussion on if hosting family should pay less or not, if that is indeed better or worse, etc.
The families pay less than they would a full time nanny. The nanny makes more than she would, working for one family.

I am seeking advice on Nanny share. We live in Alexandria near Potomac Yards and will be looking for care toward the end of September. I will be returning to work and need care for my son who will be 3 month in September. I called numerous child care centers and no luck with availability. How does parent share work? About how much does each family pay the nanny? Any advice is welcome!
