I suspect your compensation package rewards your perfect attendance a bit more than OP's, no?

Hence, you get what you pay for.

I'm not the PP but that is a ridiculous and biased assumption to make from this much information.

Your endless rantings of this nature are boring and you're wasting your energy.

I'm the PP. Agree that assumption is ridiculous!

Yes! It's indeed ridiculous to assume you get what you pay for!
What a foolish notion!!
Who coined that anyway???

I kind of feel like she shouldn't make me make up the hours since once again it was her kids that got me sick. I'm so overly cautious when it comes to hand washing and other precautions so that I don't get sick, but sometimes it isn't enough. Just for the record, the kids have been sick 5 times already so it's not like I catch everything they get either. What do you think?

She sounds like she is being nice trying to find you a way to get your normal paycheck. If you don't want to come in early then tell her and forfeit the pay.

So you want to penalize the nanny every time she works with your contagious sick kids, and she gets their illness?

Agreeing with everyone else. You have used up all of your sick leave for the year. Therefore any additional time off you take would have to be leave without pay, and probably doesn't reflect well on you in terms of overall reliability.

If your employer is offering to let you make up those hours so that you don't have to go unpaid then that is a courtesy that is being offered to you. That shows consideration.

I think 3 days is not much, 5 is what you should try to negotiate for. But do you have vacation time you can use?

In any case, your employer is not in the wrong.

Catching illness from the kids for whom you care is the primary on the job hazard of nannying. That's the job.

You were promised three sick days and you got three sick days. It makes no difference who got you sick! And just because the children got sick sooner does not mean that you didn't give the ailments to them.

I am a nanny, btw.

I think nannies should get more sick days than other jobs since they are directly exposed to germs more often. I know as a nanny, even with tons of handwashing and hand sanitizing, I still catch what my charges had. I guess the best idea would be to wear a mask, but then how could you communicate with your charges...??

That being said, your MomBoss is being completely unreasonable. You shouldn't have to worry about making up any hours, what the focus should be here is on YOU getting well soon!~

Who needs three days off for strep throat? You're not contagious 24 hours after you start taking the medicine. It doesn't matter if her kids got you sick or you got sick from being in a germy airplane or caught the flu from the old woman on the bus. You were sick enough that you felt you needed to call in sick to work. Your boss offered you a way to not lose money because of it, and you're upset? Good grief.

No, the three days you get is it. You need to make up the hours and if you can't, go unpaid.

Negotiate for a few more sick days at your year anniversary. Or save your vacation time to use for sick time. Sick days are to cover your pay when you are sick. As with pretty much any job, if you exhaust your PTO and need to be out of work, you don't normally get paid the same anyway.

Yes, you got sick. No, I don't think its unreasonable to make up the hours, take annual leave or not get paid. That's how it works in most professions.
