I personally would bail too.

Op here. If I didn't love the kids so much I would bail. This is my last chance to see the kids before I move to California. Most likely these are the end of my babysitting days too.

I know too many Nannies/Au Pairs that let folks jerk them around. They always say how much they love their charges.

I'm afraid that these women will be abused in the future by boyfriends and husbands that they " love so much"

Do you love your Friends OP? Go to the beach. The kids will forget all about you in a year or two, but your friends will always remember how you decided to work instead of having a beach weekend. You're only young once.

They should have worded their e-mail differently, perhaps asked what your availability was out of the four days needed. Like which day would work best for you?

I think it was just an honest miscommunication issue.

I would write them back and tell them you thought they needed you for the FOUR days collectively. You can always apologize for any misunderstandings that have occurred, but let them know that you would be taking public transportation to and from their home and for only three hours, it wouldn't make much financial sense to take the job.

Any considerate family would totally understand.

He told me he has to go out of town for4.days so could I cover all the days?
I then emailed back asking about the hours.

Op : I'll most likely babysit for them anyway. I'm moving to California in 2 weeks so this is my last chance to see the little ones. Maybe it's a win win. Will still get to see my friends at beach and the kids too.

I am hoping you are just young and not very experienced in any field (as opposed to very naive/entitled). Either way, you are in for a lot of disappointment and unnecessarily cancelled plans if you take every availability request as an indication that you will be hired for the entire time you say you are free.

I asked him what the schedule will look like and he said full days 9 to 6pm.

Then bail. They told you one thing and changed their minds, you are entitled to the same option.

This, OP, 100% this. Bail.

So yesterday I got an email from a babysitting family asking me about my availability for 4 days. I told them that I am available thinking they would use me full days. This means I have to cancel a trip to the beach with my friends. Now they email me saying they need me for 3 hours ONE of the days. I can't drive to VA beach as I don't have my own car so will have to spend the $ from those 3 hours on a train/or bus ticket. WWYD?
