What about toys? And the absence of swings and rockers? How do you handle that?

RIE sounds really stupid. Never put a kid in a situation they can't get out of?? They're INFANTS. They can't get out of ANYTHING. They're completely helpless. Do they not go to bed? They can't get out of any type of bed. When they're older they can't get out of a high chair...so no high chairs? They can't get out of a carseat or a stroller, are those forbidden too? Of all the methods I've seen, this is by far the most ridiculous.

I was given a lecture from a RIE nanny about how tummy time is terrible and I shouldn't do it with my charges. She explained that with RIE you never put the baby in a position that they can't get in themselves. Just wondering what's normal with RIE since you mention do lots of tummy time.
Oh, yes propping them up to do tummytime is frowned upon within RIE mindest. I was implying more for kiddos who roll over to hang/play on their tummy etc., but to encourage independent play on the floor etc.

Surprisingly not true. Still, even today, there are parents who treat their newborns like sacks of potatoes - just hauling them from one place to another and only engaging the newborn in baby talk. Doing anything consciously and slowly is very anti-2015. Do you know of one mother who doesn't watch TV or play with her phone while nursing? If anything, we are less engaged with our children than we were even 15 years ago before the smartphone.

Talk to her/him, ie explain whats going on. "Im just chanigng your nappy little Samuel then i am going to hit up your milk and feed it to you" "im going to pop you into the bath soon, that involves taking off your clothes, yes i hear you you don't likee that. There we are,and now im poppibg you in the bath " it also means putting the vaby down toplag sometimrs in tge floor or somewhere and hust giving them time to explore thier body and think
