I think both you and the nanny are weird. Nanny is weird for napping when she has work to do and for saying you woke her up. OP, you're weird for being more concerned about the dark kitchen than a nanny who hasn't gotten her work done and for posting here rather than just asking her not to nap. You both deserve each other.

It should go without saying, sleeping on the job is unacceptable.

why is it disconcerting? Are you scared of the dark?

Napping is ok, napping when chores aren't finished is not.

Making the room darker if no one else is around or it doesn't bother you is ok, expecting you to alter your routine to not wake her is not.

FWIW - our previous nanny would fall asleep during DC2s nap time and I never really objected but I think looking back that's where things started to slide downhill. She definitely went from being a great nanny to a so-so nanny and part of it was me not saying anything to curb her behavior when she started slacking off and not doing part of her assigned duties (like folding kids laundry).

MB here. I'd be ok w/ some level of napping (assuming she's great in the job overall and gets everything done.)

I would be completely unwilling to alter my behavior to accommodate her naps in my home.

Your nanny has allot nerve, I would never nap with mom's home, did you know she would be doing that when you hired her? This does not sound like a good match for you, mom's and nannies really need a great personalty match and on the same page for nanny and mom to be together.

If she were getting everything done that needed doing, then it'd be okay, except for making comments about you going about your day.

But she's sleeping instead of doing the kid's laundry and that's not okay. Talk to her about it.

I would NOT be ok with this, or any scheduled napping on the job, particularly if laundry isn't getting done.

I work from home 2-4 days a week, while our nanny watches 2 year old DD. When DD goes down for her afternoon nap, the nanny sleeps on the couch.

I know there have been a lot of posts here on nannies sleeping while the child naps, and normally I'd be ok with it, but I find it a little odd that she's sleeping when I'm also in the house working. Even worse, she turns off the lights off, closes the blinds, and makes comments if I go into the kitchen for coffee or a snack and accidentally wake her up.

Do I just deal with it, or it is really as odd as I think it is?
