SHe'd prob love it. Is prob making $10-12/hour on the books and you could swing in and offer her $15/hour.

Make sure you have a job spec listed out and collect her thoughts on how she'd care for your child at various 6 month increments while nannying. does she drive?

I was poached from a school and now make 3 times more each week. Believe me the isolation can be overcome lol. I take the kids out a lot and get to engage them anyway

There may be casual or more formally organized nanny groups where you live - facebook is a good place to search if you don't want to mention location here.

Isolation is an issue for some nannies, and the fact that you recognize that is a huge plus.

Since your child will also need to be around other kids, whatever classes (music, gym, art, storytime, etc.) that are available are good places to meet friends for nanny and your kiddo.

Thank you all. OP here. To 9:27, the candidate I have in mind has a degree and the daycare in question is a center where they have a curriculum and do a lot of interesting and well thought out activities. If you have any thoughts on how your nanny overcame any issues of isolation, I would love to hear them. The concern raised at 9:21 was one I had thought of too and was thinking it might mean a nanny gig is not for everyone.

Otherwise, I think you said it just fine. You might ask for emails, or mention where you're planning to post the ad. I know agencies look for candidates at daycares, too.

Yep, thought of that. I can't stand the owner anyway and have only continued at this daycare because everything else is so great, particularly the staff. I actually view this as a bit of a perk.

Poaching is unethical.

Nonsense. Everyone should hang on to their current job until they find a better one. Why should nannies be excluded from this common and sensible practice?

I believe the daycare teacher's $5-$10/hr raise when she becomes a nanny is more ethical than poaching is unethical. I am not OP.

The difference between daycare teacher and daycare worker is huge. If you are talking about an actual teacher (with a college degree even if just an associates degree) I would say yes. A daycare worker, told what to do everyday by superiors and when to do it, would not make a great nanny. Nannies follow the child's lead but have to be 100% self-motivating regarding outings, classes, story times, and generally educational experiences for the child.

I am an MB with a FANTASTIC nanny who was a preschool teacher (masters in early childhood education) and I can tell you she is worth her weight in gold.

I would just be worried about her going from a team environment to working in a very isolating job. That is one thing a lot of people don't realize and in turn cannot handle when becoming a nanny. If it turns out it's not her cup of tea then you will need to put your child through another transition.

Just FYI - there may be a "placement fee" due to the daycare in your contract if you hire one of them.

I was thinking something as simple as, DC will be leaving in a few months and we will be looking to hire a nanny, do you know anyone who is interested.

If anyone thinks this is a particularly bad idea, don't hold back. It's dcum, so I know you won't.

Love love this line OP!! Lol.
