? You are talking about 50 hours a week (aside from the summer) 10 of those hours are at time and a half. Legally you are paying less than $11 an hour. Please tell me where my math is wrong.

+ 1 Plus that is calculating that every month only has 20 working days. And I actually did major in math, OP.

You must know that nannies, by law, are hourly workers. There is no flat monthly salary.

+2 Seriously, OP, where is our math wrong?

I'm one of the "salaried" nannies who has a very similar structure and I love it! I love that I have the exact amount deposited to my checking account twice a month and neither of us have to worry about counting hours. It's just easy! It should also be mentioned that my family is very rarely late! In the last year it's been about three times that I've gotten a "stuck in traffic be home 10 minutes late" text.
I think if they were constantly late or needed my early I would be annoyed since my pay doesn't change.

Good luck!

If you have guaranteed hours, PP, your pay would change for the less either. Granted, in your case, it wouldn't make any difference but you would still be getting the exact same amount but also getting a change at more.

It's not $11/hour so...

That's a great pay rate and excellent package for most of the country.

OP, if you don't mind me asking, where are you located? I live in Atlanta (outside the city, so lower cost of living) and accepted a job similar to this. My take home every week was roughly $600-$615 after taxes, with a gym membership and an allowance every month for my health insurance. I also only had to care for one child - so I think if it's $600 BEFORE taxes, you're paying too little.

But we know the pay is not fantastic. That's why I'm looking for nannies' opinions on whether the rest of the package makes the job sound worth it.

Good to hear. We were thinking the time off might be the attraction. We're trying to give where we can.

To the other PP, the kids will be in preschool two mornings a week, so it's really only 45 hours per week of actual childcare. No extra housekeeping required during that time. Perhaps that will be something someone in school part time would value as study time? In summer, I only work until 12 noon so hours will be shorter and we often take long weekends to visit family.

MB here. That seems pretty low for two kids IMO even if you are in a lower cost area. $600/week but 10 of those are OT hours, which amounts to less than $11/hr.

I'll start by saying I live in a lower cost of living area than DC, but not the middle of nowhere. Still you can actually buy decent houses for 200k. We'd like to offer $600 per week guaranteed 52 weeks per year. 3 weeks vacation (1 of our choosing & 2 of nanny's choosing), 5 paid sick days (if needed), 10 paid holidays, plus week between Christmas and New Years as paid holiday.

Nanny will be caring for 1 year old and 3 year old. Both will attend preschool twice a week. Nanny would walk or use our car for drop off/ pick up and other outings. Nanny would only be responsible for housekeeping/ food prep related to the kids. Hours would be 8 am to 6 pm, M-F. In the summer, nanny would often have off Friday or early dismissal.

We are a pretty laid back family and would like to give nanny freedom to plan outings/activities that she likes. We have a house with a nice backyard and walkable neighborhood.

Would this be an attractive position for a nanny? Ideally we'd find someone with a few years experience but wouldn't necessarily need college degree.
